Javier Perianes records the complete Beethoven piano concertos

Pianist Javier Perianes took part this May in the recording of the complete piano concertos of Ludwig van Beethoven together with the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía.

Over the course of May 7, 8 and 9, Perianes recorded the German composer’s five piano concertos in a discographic project set to be released in 2027, coinciding with the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s death, officially designated as the Beethoven Year, a landmark celebration in the international musical calendar.

For this recording, Javier Perianes also led the orchestra from the piano, a practice the artist himself describes as “directing from the piano.” His approach sought to create an organic dialogue with the orchestra, encourage mutual listening and foster a natural flow within the musical discourse.

This project formed part of an artistic line the pianist had already explored the previous year, when he performed Beethoven’s five piano concertos in a single day at the Auditorio Nacional de Música of Madrid, as part of the marathon event “¡Solo música! Beethoven ¡pianísimo!”, organised by the Centro Nacional de Difusión Musical on the occasion of Music Day.
