Javier Perianes celebrates Falla on the 150th anniversary of his birth
The pianist from Huelva, Javier Perianes, begins 2026 by paying tribute to one of the key composers in the history of Spanish music, Manuel de Falla, marking the 150th anniversary of his birth.
In this way, Perianes launches a series of concerts that will take him to multiple cities, beginning in his hometown of Nerva, where he will give a benefit recital in support of the Jesús Nazareno Nursing Home on January 10. He will then travel to Alicante (Teatro Principal, January 19) and Madrid (Auditorio Nacional, January 20), before visiting in the following months Brussels, Liège, Gibraltar, Paris, Barcelona, Perth (Scotland), and Ostrava (Czech Republic), among other destinations and engagements. In the program, the pianist combines works by Falla (Nocturno, Mazurka, Serenata andaluza…) with pieces by Chopin (Nocturne, Op. 27 No. 2; Berceuse, Op. 57; a selection of mazurkas…), ending each evening with a selection from Iberia by Albéniz and Falla’s Cuatro piezas españolas.
In April, he will perform Noches en los jardines de España with the Bamberger Symphoniker under the baton of Roberto González Monjas. Perianes has recorded several works by Falla, including Noches en los jardines de España with Josep Pons and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Siete canciones populares españolas with Estrella Morente or Tabea Zimmermann (in the version for piano and viola), as well as the complete solo piano works of the composer from Granada.
